Jailhouse Accommodation was rated #1 in New Zealand and Oceania at the 2009 Hoscars, and it’s not hard to see why. This quirky, clean, comfortable and quiet hostel is set in a historic former jail. It’s located about 20 minutes’ walk from the Arts Centre, Christchurch Art Gallery, Canterbury Museum and the Botanic Gardens and is surrounded by a variety of bars and cafes. We like their friendly and very helpful staff, who have a great knowledge of the area.

Bo i fengsel! Forfatterens valg i Lonely Planet og Rough Guide 2008 og 2010. Beste vandrerhjem i mellomstørrelse i NZ 2007, 2008 og 2009. Wi-Fi. Gratis parkering. Det vandrerhjemmets om er nærmest togstasjonen. Fantastiske, renoverte rom med kulturarv og en fargerik historie. Rent, hyggelig og gjestfritt.

Very cool and fun hostel. The only thing that is not so good is the location. However, it is a very cool hostel! The vibe from the previous prison is cool and it is a well used theme at the hostel.

Great place with a fun twist. The only downside is the short timeframe, in which the staff is available. This leads to terrible laundry hours and no possibility to ask the staff members for advice or recommendations

For the experience of staying in a jail overnight it was incredible, unique. When I was there, there seemed to be a young crowd which were very loud running a muck. That’s no fault of the hostel though. Staff aren’t there 24/7. But an email address is present and they respond rapidly. No Air Conditioning in the dorm I stayed in. Just in terms of lockers if a big one was under the bed and rolled out from under the bed it would be better. It’s a hostel so hostel standard. Jail is unique to stay in
