It was a bit of an odd stay. I never actually met the staff; the gentleman selling wares out front helped me get situated and was very helpful. The location is fantastic but the accommodations are pretty basic. I was on the low bunk up against a window and it was FREEZING. It felt like I was sleeping outside.

The location is amazing. Kouenji is a great place to be and this hostel is right in the krux. Other reviews mentioned some concerns about safety (due to the door being unlocked) which may be valid if it was in another country. However, japan is so safe! that no one, especially in that neighborhood would do something harmful. Yoshi keeps to himself but he's a cool guy. Meeting ppl really just depends on who is staying the nights you're there. Its a great hostel to crash and explore tokyo!

Great location! The hostel is clean and comfortable. Not the best place to meet people, not a very social hostel but would be fine if you were travelling in a group. Also keep in mind there are no lockers in the rooms, and the dorms have no locks either so anyone can come in (they do lock up at 3am though), so not a good place to stay if you have valuables. Although the area feels very safe so I'm sure it would be fine.
